Todavía en Bolivia / Still in Boliva

Good morning!

 

We made it to the bus terminal at 6:30 this morning for our 7 o'clock departure to find that there is another protest, this time in Bolivia, that is blocking the border with Chile so our bus can't get across.  The bus company told us to wait until noon for more information.  A tv station was at the terminal filming the travelers regarding the delay, and they interviewed Giovanny, which was cool.

 

We called the Methodist church and they said that they had originally planned for us to be here through tomorrow anyway, so we were welcome to come back to the hotel.  We were grateful to get back to a warm place (the bus terminal is open air and it was probably around 35 degrees) and have some breakfast while we waited.

 

A group of Methodist missionaries (Americans) at the hotel and I had a brainstorming session, and we think we might have a solution.  It looks like our best bet is to take a bus to Copacabana on the Bolivian-Peruvian border and then to take a boat across Lake Titicaca to Puno on the Peru side.  At that point we should be past all of the road blocks and be able to continue our trip on a bus to Lima.  We're waiting for some contacts in Copacabana to get back to us about the availability and prices of the boats and to ensure that once we get to Puno, we'll be past all of the road blocks.

 

Please keep praying for us.  We're confident that God will work it out soon, and we're very thankful for the continuing hospitality of the church and for all of the people that He's put in our path this morning to help us.

Buenos días!

 

Llegamos al terminal esta mañana a las 6:30 y supimos que hay otra protesta y paro en Bolivia que está bloqueando la carretera hasta Chile, así que nuestro bus no puede cruzar la frontera.  La compañía de buses nos dijo que tendrían más noticias al mediodía.  Había un canal de televisión grabando en el terminal, y entrevistaron a Giovanny en cuanto al paro y el retraso!

 

Llamamos a la iglesia metodista, y ellos nos dijeron que habían planeado que quedamos hasta mañana y que podríamos volver al hotel sin problemas.  Estábamos muy agradecidos a llegar a un sitio caliente (el terminal esta abierto y la temperatura estaba como a 2 grados) y a desayunar mientras esperábamos.

 

Un grupo de misioneros metodistas de los EE.UU. nos ayudó a buscar otras opciones, y parece que tengamos una solución.  Podemos coger un bus hasta Copacabana en la frontera de Bolivia y Peru y después tomar una barca para cruzar el Lago Titicaca y llegar a Puno, que esta en Peru.  Desde Puno, debemos haber pasado los paros y podríamos continuar nuestra viaje hasta Lima en bus.  Ahora estamos esperando a que algunos contactos en Copacabana averigüen los precios y disponibilidad de las barcas y que aseguren que al llegar a Puno, podemos continuar sin problemas con paros.

 

Por favor, sigue orando por nosotros.  Confiamos que Dios nos dará una solución de pronto, y estamos muy agradecidos por la hospitalidad de la iglesia y por las personas que Dios nos envió esta mañana para ayudarnos.  También, les agradecemos a Uds. por sus oraciones!
